So I've played 4th edition twice now, and I'm having a real fun time with it. Theres a lot of things to do even with our level 1 characters, which I am told is a big difference from the previous versions. We've had people drop, and get close to death, but no one has been killed yet Were running a fighter, ranger, warlord and wizard along with a 5th NPC that the DM controls. We've done the encounters in the back of the DM guide, a self made one, and started doing some of the Keep of Shadowfell adventure.
How is your experience with this new edition? _________________ Hurray! Jen Con! |

We just met for the first time on Sunday. We started up with Keep on the Shadowfell and have moved things along pretty well. The party is comprised of a fighter, cleric, wizard, warlock and ranger. It used to be a rogue instead of a ranger, but I suggested they put another defender into the mix an the rogue switched classes. I don't think the ranger quite makes up for it and was hoping he would create a paladin, but it is better than when only the fighter was standing toe to toe with the monsters.
I'll be organizing a second session, and will probably need a third or fourth to get through the whole module. It's pretty fun, and everyone does have something interesting to do. _________________ This is what happens when you find a man in the Alps! |

| So is it harder to write adventures on your own compared to before? With all the special abilities for monsters and such, is there more to keep track of from a DM standpoint? |

I've found it a lot easier to run the monsters. They've got a couple of powers each, and you just run through those. I ran a quick encounter with a small white dragon and it was a ton of fun. Multiple attacks, breath weapon, all sorts of stuff. The adventure that we're running right now has been filled with a bunch of encounters with kobolds and goblins, but they're so much more interesting than before. They do more than just attack now, they've got fancy abilities.
There's really a lot less to keep track of compared to 3rd Edition. Everything is laid out nicely, you apply effects at the beginning of your turn, take actions, then end your turn and make saves. It's a really fun system. _________________ This is what happens when you find a man in the Alps! |
